Bad for the budget and bad for women

On March 10 Christine Charbonneau of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest had an opinion piece published on HeraldNet extolling the public health and economic benefits of family planning. She asks the Legislature to preserve family planning in our state budget. We should not take her advice and should instead defund Planned Parenthood.Planned Parenthood is the largest recipient of family planning dollars in our state so it's no surprise that she neglected to tell readers the true economic costs of these programs and the toll they are taking on women's health.
A true accounting of family planning programs would include the cost of treating the many health problems that come with contraceptive use. It would include the cost of treating the side effects of contraceptive use: blood clots and increased risk of cardiovascular disease for certain groups of women. It would also include the cost to treat sexually transmitted diseases when our fellow citizens are taught to believe that "safe sex" means using contraceptives, which don't protect against STDs. March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Monday, March 9, President Obama signed an executive order that provides federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. This means that American taxpayers will now be paying for the killing of human beings at a very early stage in their lives (as embryos), so that scientific research can make use of them for experiments that may or may not yield positive results.
We U.S. taxpayers will now be forced to pay, whether we wish to or not, for the killing of our youngest brothers and sisters on the dubious hypothesis that their murders might, in the future, benefit others. Why did President Obama make this decision? Read the rest of Bishop Olmsted's statement.

SmithThe assisted suicide movement has the media eating out of the palm of its collective hand, by often getting reporters to adopt their lexicon--the euphemistic "aid in dying" as opposed to the accurately descriptive "assisted suicide"--and writing as if suicide were a necessity--even though the cases from Oregon show that almost all assisted suicides involve fears of loss of dignity or of burdening others, etc. And the media virtually never mention that proper hospice care includes intervention and prevention whenever a patient requests to end it all through suicide.

Washington State to Become Second to Legalize Assisted Suicide on Thursday

Olympia, WA (LifeNews.com) -- Washington state becomes the second to legalize assisted suicide when the I-1000 ballot initiative voters approved in November becomes law on Thursday. The law allows terminally ill patients with less than six months to live to request a lethal prescription from their physician.
Pro-life advocates opposed the law because they don't want to see doctors become killers and they note that alternatives are available to death as a solution. Read more...
