On Respect Life Sunday, October 3, 2010, Fr. Gerard Saguto, FSSP offered some logical responses to the culture of death and challenged his parishioners to live in accordance with the culture of life. He has kindly shared his sermon with the Gospel of Life Institute.
Perhaps we are familiar with the bumper sticker that quotes the words of Mother Teresa: “It is a tragedy that a child should die so that you can live as you want.” This brief saying well-describes the struggle we are all currently engaged in what used to be called the civilized world. Something is civilized insofar as it functions in accord with truth and reality, not because we have fancy gadgets and technology; to treat someone as an animal or object would not be civilized because such behavior fails to render to that person what is due to him. We all have a certain sense of this because of the natural law, but it should be even more pronounced when we are informed by the true Faith. The problem is when the civilized world, which Catholicism by and large formed, abandons God as the very thing responsible for its existence, things which were once held as sacred based on that, including the morality surrounding those things, must necessarily be redefined. To the degree God is replaced with something else, things like the definitions of life and death change along with it because “personal convenience” suddenly becomes the lens under which every decision in life is viewed. Since we now create our own reality and truth, our conception of what constitutes a right is greatly distorted. Read more...

Seattle, WA, Feb. 11, 2011 (Abortion In Washington) -- It's been a very intense two weeks in the fight against Planned Parenthood at the national and local level. And it's not about to simmer down anytime soon.
This week AIW has obtained new direct and damning evidence of crimes happening at Planned Parenthood centers in the state of Washington. Of course, women who've had abortions have known this all along. It's only now that the general public is learning the truth about the abortion industry's dirty secrets. Read more...

"Washington taxpayers will have to foot the bill and women will ultimately pay the price," says Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde
LANSDOWNE, Va., Feb. 2, 2011 (Christian Newswire) -- The Washington State Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee held a hearing Wednesday on an anti-pregnancy center bill (SB 5274) that is similar, but even more onerous, than a Baltimore City bill that was declared unconstitutional on Jan.28 in the U.S. District Court of Maryland. If passed, the Washington bill would shut down pregnancy centers by opening them up to costly lawsuits from any aggrieved person. Pregnancy centers in Washington State provide an estimated $18.6 million dollars worth of free services to women facing unplanned pregnancies and their families. The legislation is being championed by Planned Parenthood Votes Washington and other organizations advocating for abortion providers.
During Wednesday's hearing, Sen. Cheryl Pflug asked the prime sponsor of the bill, Sen. Kevin Ranker, where the state, in light of its $4.6 billion dollar budget shortfall, would get the money to defend the law, which would be challenged. Sen. Ranker said the Attorney General's office would pay for it; however, according to Sen. Pflug, Attorney General Bob McKenna has already indicated that the Washington state anti-pregnancy center bill appears to be even more of an infringement on the freedom of speech than the City of Baltimore's was. Baltimore, MD, Jan. 28, 2011 6:55 PM (LifeNews.com) -- A federal judge has struck down a Baltimore law that was the subject of a lawsuit brought by the Archdiocese of Baltimore because it unfairly attacks pregnancy centers that provide women with abortion alternatives.
A non-compliant pregnancy center may also be subject to a criminal misdemeanor charge under the law and, if convicted, the pregnancy center is subject to a fine of $200, plus $50 for each day the offense continues. The non-payment of fines could result in the pregnancy center being held in contempt of court.
Judge Garbis in Baltimore granted summary judgment finding the anti-pregnancy center law is viewpoint-based and impermissible to render constitution under the First Amendment. He dismissed without prejudice all other claims and found a couple of the plaintiffs lacked standing (including the Archbishop and the Catholic church that provides space for one of the pregnancy centers that filed suit) but the ruling is viewed as a substantial victory by pro-life advocates. Feb. 3, 2011 (Live Action Blog) -- Just days after an explosive undercover video showed a Planned Parenthood manager in New Jersey coaching a purported pimp and his prostitute how to cover up their child sex trafficking operation, Live Action releases full footage from a Richmond, VA Planned Parenthood abortion center showing the clinic agreeing to help the pimp get secret abortions and cheap birth control for his trafficked girls. The new video is evidence of the endemic problem of Planned Parenthood’s willingness to aid and abet in the sexual exploitation of minors and young women.
“Planned Parenthood’s problems go far beyond New Jersey. Our new video shows their Richmond clinic willing to aid and abet the sexual exploitation of minors and coaching a pimp about how girls as young as 14 – 15 could circumvent parental consent laws for secret abortions,” said Live Action President Lila Rose. “Watch the video – the clinic worker admits they do this ‘once or twice a month.’ Our investigations of 12 clinics in the past four years show a pattern of Planned Parenthood’s willingness to cover-up the sexual abuse of minors and young women.” Read more...
