Western Washington Pro-Life Update

January 26, 2011

"But despite their differences of nature and moral gravity, contraception and abortion are often closely connected, as fruits of the same tree. It is true that in many cases contraception and even abortion are practised under the pressure of real- life difficulties, which nonetheless can never exonerate from striving to observe God's law fully. Still, in very many other instances such practices are rooted in a hedonistic mentality unwilling to accept responsibility in matters of sexuality, and they imply a self-centered concept of freedom, which regards procreation as an obstacle to personal fulfilment. The life which could result from a sexual encounter thus becomes an enemy to be avoided at all costs, and abortion becomes the only possible decisive response to failed contraception."
~ Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, no. 13, March 25, 1995~

UPDATE ON HB 1366 HEARING - Government-sponsored discrimination

by Lisa-Ann Oliver, Administrative Assistant, Human Life of Washington

On Monday, Jan. 24, the Healthcare and Wellness Committee held a hearing regarding HB 1366 (the euphemistically named “Limited Service Pregnancy Center Accountability Act”), a bill brought by Planned Parenthood, Legal Voice, NARAL and NOW, as they admit in their own press releases.

Though the hearing began at 1:30 p.m., by the time I arrived at 11:00 a.m., there were already nearly 100 people sporting “I Love Pregnancy Resource Centers” buttons. By noon, that number had swelled to over 250, and by the time of the hearing, there were over 500 people gathered in opposition to the bill, lining the hallways and standing outside in the off-again on-again drizzle. Conscience ALERT

AAPLOG (American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists) is very careful to not cry WOLF! Unless the Wolf is at the door. The Wolf is now at the door. He can sit there quietly for a year, or he can burst in the door on January 31 and savage your conscience rights. We need to start acting NOW, and keep on acting on behalf of our conscience rights. This Wolf does not plan to go away.

Go to: http://www.freedom2care.org/action/message/patient Here you can express yourself regarding retaining your conscience rights by clicking on “Healthcare professionals-comment here” and signing the petition. It is common sense and simple. It is the least you can do for yourself and your colleagues in this vital contest of ideologies.

But you can do more, much more: multiply yourself hundreds-fold by informing your patients of this crisis and this website. Patients can click on “Patients-comment here,” and sign a petition demanding their own right to have a Hippocratic physician. Read more...

DSHS Knowingly Violating Hyde Amendment, Using Federal Tax Dollars to Fund Abortions

by Jonathan B.

In this exclusive report, AIW can now reveal the results of an investigation into Washington and other states in which we have learned that they are routinely violating federal law.

Since 1976, it has been illegal to use federal Medicaid money to pay for abortions. States that opted to subsidize the abortion industry through Medicaid had to make sure to carefully segregate funds so that abortions were only paid for out of state Medicaid dollars. (Medicaid is a federal program with a complicated funding formula, but in brief, it's funded from a mix of federal and state monies.) Read more...

Fr. Barron Comments on Abortion: Shocking Numbers

Father Barron recently released a commentary on Abortion and its effect on our culture. The video reminds us all that life is "the most compelling moral issue of our time."

 EVENTS

Memorial Mass for the Innocents

There will be a Memorial Mass for the children killed by abortion in Tacoma tomorrow, Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Church (3314 S 58th St Tacoma WA 98409). The Mass will be offered by Fr. Nicholas Wichert for the repose of the souls of those innocents whose lives were violently taken, here in our community, by the act of abortion. All of the faithful are invited to participate in this act of mercy, and to commend these little ones to the Divine Mercy. Our communal prayer is a witness that these tiny brothers and sisters are loved, and that they are not forgotten.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practices and Their Conflict with Pro-Life Ethics

Wednesday, February 2 at 7 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, Tacoma (www.fpctacoma.com).

Free and open to the public.

Featuring Dr. Theresa Deisher
President, Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute

Do you know what is in your vaccines, drugs, and cosmetics?

Currently there are 24 vaccines produced using aborted fetal cell lines. In addition, several cosmetic anti-aging creams, 3 FDA-approved recombinant drugs, and up to 85 more drugs coming soon are being produced using aborted fetal cell lines or aborted fetal cell proteins. Is this ethical? Is this safe? Is this even necessary? Find out at a free talk on Feb. 2 at Tacoma's First Presbyterian Church by nationally-recognized Dr. Theresa Deisher, President of Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, a non-profit group that seeks to provide ethical alternatives to using aborted fetal materials in our drugs and cosmetics.

Dr. Theresa Deisher obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford University and is a named inventor on over 23 issued patents. She is a pioneer in adult stem-cell research and was the first person to discover and patent cardiac stem cells. A leading critic of the ethics of embryonic stem cell research, she is a plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.
